It's almost 11:30 at night and son just came in saying a deer was caught in the fence in the front yard garden spot. He had heard a "twang" sound just as he was coming in from upstairs. When we got out there, she had apparently freed herself and we saw nothing but her white tail on its way out of sight. So, daughter and son and I went out to see if we needed to cut any wire away so it doesn't happen again. What we found was that she had tackled one of my tomato cages, trampled it to death, then left. No lost blood, or fur on the wire or fence, just a mangled tomato cage. Doesn't look like she's any worse for wear, that's good.
We usually keep wire picked up and put away or thrown away as we don't want anything or anyone getting hurt on it. But husband neatly stacked my tomato cages in the far end of the garden for winter last fall, since there wasn't enough room for that many of them in the greenhouse this time. He had made me a bunch of them last spring because I planted more tomato plants than usual. Got more tomatoes, too :)
We leave the garden gate open in winter because snow will prevent it from opening when we need to go shovel off the greenhouse.
We only have about 6 inches of snow out there right now with water under it. Not normal for January, but we've not had the normal amount of snow all winter, so far. That's not good. From what I heard, we have only about 3/4 of the snowpack we need.
We don't want any more forest fires. The fire in 2008 was more scare then we'd care to have again. I don't know how people in California do it with all the fires they have there. That one was scary enough!
The chickens are still laying nicely for the most part. We're getting about 8 every day which may not sound like much but it's more than we had before we put that light bulb in the chicken house. Means I get breakfast, too :)
Goodnight,
and God bless...
