Lots to do....
The garden beds have begun to dry out enough to get some work done out in the garden and yesturday we got 3 of the long beds done. We turn them over with a garden fork and shovel and pull out weeds every spring just before planting. Oh there's plenty more to do but it's nice to get that much finished. I could try planting a few seeds but I haven't decided whether I should or not. I still have the greenhouse bed to finish weeding out, too. I have a few radishes and spinach already coming up on one end in there.
Lots to do....

I wanted to do a blog post everyday with the comings and goings on here but, so far I haven't done that so I guess I'll just do what I can do and post what I post.
Have a great day! Well, we've had a nice warm sunny spring so far, tho this is only March. We are still far too short on precipitation this winter and now spring. There are warnings out in the local newspaper about the upcoming forest fire season and it's not good.
I am a bit behind on my planting this spring but not bad. If I don't get to feeling better, it's going to get even further behind. I got the plants from the basement out to the greenhouse so that's good. I hope they've survived the dormancy in the basement. I'm hoping to get our mint garden going this spring. Last year we bought several mint plants over ebay and will need to replace some of them.. and add a few more. The plan is to put the mints in tires out in the orchard part of the garden. We're working on putting in about 40 different mints with different scents. I'd like to get rid of that horrible knapweed and this is one way to work toward that. The way things are lining up this season, we may be able to get things outside early this year...but this water situation could be a big problem, being this dry. So it's a that's good, no that's bad kind of situation. We're certainly praying for this drought to end! Well, it's March again. We've had several warm days recently and that thawed the little bit of snow and ice in the yard and driveway. My kitchen floor looks like the driveway. Mud.
I guess I got another date with the mop... as if it were anything new. Today our oldest son brought home a vacuum cleaner! I haven't had one in about 2 years and he found a old kirby, used, at a yard sale for a reasonable price on his way home from seeing his friend in Washington. It needs to have part of a broken hose replaced which will cost $12. Hard enough to come up with but a lot less than the hundreds for a new vacuum cleaner! Now I can get back to busy and maybe find this living room. I know there's one here, I bought it with the house and saw it then. So there IS a living room here, someplace ;) Now to get something accomplished between planting and moving trays around. I need to have a yard sale. Anyone wanna buy old used junk? Well after several delays and one thing after another, along with too much fatigue.... I finally got 2 flats of onion seeds planted today. This is the middle of March and it should have been done 2 weeks ago. But 2 weeks this early and with onions doesn't hurt much. I think all the books say to start seeds later anyway.
I'll try to get more done this evening. We'd need to plant more than we have space for to grow all we'd use. Could use garlic, too. I hope to get some this year but ran out of money to order any. I hope to get some from the local outfits that sell seeds if I can. We've had 2 or 3 days of nice sunny 50 degree weather outside and there's plenty to get done this spring around here, but we're so short on snow that I'm getting concerned about forest fires. It's supposed to snow this week but only about an inch. Wish those folks in the east that got buried in the stuff could have sent some of their extra up north here. We surely could use it! It's been a week and I haven't started even one garden seed yet. This tooth infection problem keeping me from getting good sleep, all the stress from being in Kalispell for a month and needing to catch up on sleep from that... and just the normal fatigue.... Blah!
So, I haven't started my plants yet. Good thing I have a couple of weeks to 'play' with. That's just about done tho and I NEED to get going on it, if we're going to plant anything this year. My dad is doing good in rehab and hopefully will soon be in the next phase. His coming home will be a relief .. at least I hope. It's going to be a lot of work. Jasmine is talking about going to their house and staying til he gets fully on his feet. They'll need the help. It'll keep her busy during the garden season but that doesn't change their need for help. Guess I better get on with my day.. gonna try to get the onions seeds planted in flats today. We brought in the potting soil and the seed starting mix to get things going for this year's garden. The bags have to warm up some after being outside in the unheated greenhouse all winter.
I will be getting onions started 1st, in the next few days, and in a couple of weeks or so, cabbage will be next. Our winter hibernation is almost done and gearing up for garden work is on our minds now. Getting anxious to get started. Of course, I may not feel that way when my back hurts along with every unused muscle I have in my ol' body...LOL Well, I'm home. I had to come home several days early because of a absessed tooth. Now that it's taken care of (in other words, extracted), I can get back to busy here. I have garden seeds to get started and garden planning to get done. I am sooo looking forward to this kinda work instead of the past month.
Gardening may make my muscles sore but it's more relaxing than sitting by my dad's bedside watching him trying to die on us. Thankfully he is doing better now and hopefully will be coming home soon. I am glad to be back home. ...when my dad got so sick. We've been thru a roller-coaster but it finally seems that maybe we can get off it. See the updates page for further explanation.
I should be gettin back to business, updating the site, and continuing the Seed Starting page, very soon. I hope to be back home this week. Mom took Dad to the ER again today. He had already spent the night at the hospital last Thursday and will again tonight over the same situation... seems to have a heart rhythm problem. Something called "left bundle branch block". It wasn't there when he had his last problem almost 2 years ago and his heart was checked (when he had the pneumonia), but it definitely is now. A bit scary since he's 78 years old.
He apparently passed out in the middle of the night trying to get to the bathroom, and fell on the floor. Thursday morning, he had apparently passed out at the casino when bending over to pick up a piece of paper he dropped on the floor. It seems there's more than one problem going on with the heart problem and the blood pressure fluctuating too much. One doctor said it could be a problem with his med levels. But another one said no, that's not it. Daughter and I spent the afternoon in the hospital with him and Mom today. Seemed like Mom needed the company and someone to help understand what the problems are. It's a lot of big and confusing words, I'll tell ya! And it comes with getting older, I guess. Goodnight.... |
